Singing in the Rain

Despite the never ending rain, Keira and I met with Anne and her son, Martin, yesterday for a nice walk in Frognerpark. Anne and her husband were also a part of the group from Norway who went to China to adopt a child. Martin is four years old and soooooo cute.

When Martin saw us at the park, he ran to us a and smiled so big and chattered incessantly in Norwegian. See how cute they are together!

Sunny Day...Must Play

Yes, finally, it was a beautiful sunny day in Oslo. We walked to Baerums Verk today where Keira could walk on the grass, take a look at the river and eat a bolle.

There were several kids running and playing along the grass today where Keira was. And, there was one little girl who must have been 3 to 4 years old or so who kept following Keira. This girl had her finger so far up her nose, you'd think that she was digging for gold or something. It was really gross. Her mother asked her to stop picking her nose and she said why? Why should she stop picking her nose? Hmmm...let me think about that one. Want to eat it too?

Every time Keira stopped what she was doing to look at the girl and say something to her, the girl just stared and would run away. After a few minutes, she would come back with her finger up her nose again. GROSS. GROSS. GROSS.

Me, as the particular mommy that I am, had to pull Keira away and whisper to her that we don't hang out with girls that pick our noses...'cause, I mean, that's just gross. You see a picture of this little girl towards the end of the first video.

Ok, let's try it without the girl...

Officially walking!

Well, here she is. Officially walking today. She let go and went for it! What a surprise. Now I have to hide everything or move it out of the way because she's got a long reach...cell phone? No problem. Wallet? No problem. Hot pans? No problem. Yikes!

Summer in Norway

We travelled to Norway to spend 1 week with my family. Since it is summer, we had to go visit them at their summer houses. First we visited my mother and father. I have to spell the name out where they have their summer cabin, it's a funny name: Taftøysundet, and to get to that place, you have to drive through Kyrksæterøra (yeah, see if you can say that 3 times fast...) Keira was doing her first cabin visit, and she felt comfortable from the beginning. She loves my mother and father, and likes to be picked up and be held by them. It was warm enough to try the baby pool:

Just to make sure that she really liked it (this picture is from the second try, at my brother Terje's cabin):

She loved sitting by my mom, all kids like that since she is constantly feeding them what they want...
Of course we had to go and try out the boat (my dad's) with Keira.

She liked it. I first thought she looked scared, but found out later she wasn't scared, just tired. So she fell asleep after 5 minutes driving.... Just like her mom on the sailboat - falls asleep after 5 minutes.... I could let her sleep in the life jacket on the dock, she didn't mind.... What a perfect sailor!

Did I mention that Keira checked out every corner of the cabin in the early mornings just after she woke up? No problem adjusting to new places there!

The day of firsts

Today was the day of many firsts…... It’s easy to forget all the times in life we did something for the first time – Keira is a good reminder for us. Today we went biking around the big lake in Bochum. It was tons of people, the school ended last week so with more than 28 degrees in the shade and blasting sun, it was a day everyone wanted to enjoy. For Keira it was her first long ride in the back of the bike in her bike seat. She loved it eventually.

It was also her first day eating a Popsicle (saftis), and she loved that too. We didn’t understand why she was giggling so much when she ate it, but when we tried a bite we quickly understood. The Popsicle had the candy rocks that “explodes” in your mouth and tingles. No wonder she was giggling…..
It was also the first day she fell asleep in her bike chair, and we realized the problem when she dropped her head and it hit my butt when she fell asleep.

Yes, we admit it, we have turned into parents that thinks the whole world is centered around their kids - the kind we hated before we got Keira. But now we are the same as all other parents - good to see that we are normal.....
But she is just so darn cute (most of the time...)

Now a quick freshen-up, and then we are off to our traditional Chinese buffet dinner – that we all love.

Happy July 4th!!

After being here for almost 8 years, this is the second time that we've celebrated July 4th here. The July 4th picnic in Cologne was great. Hard Rock Cafe sponsored the ribs, hamburgers and buffalo wings and the members each brought either a side dish or a dessert. We got to choose one of the above to eat and let me tell you, that one thing was yummy! What's not yummy about Hard Rock hamburgers and ribs?

Keira ate a whole rib by herself...and the pasta salad, ...and two bolle...and three pieces of watermelon and 4 strawberries. Man, that girl can eat me under the table. And, that's a pretty big deal for those of you who know me! :)

Here's our 4th of July day...

Catching some Zzzz's before the big day

A Day of Firsts

Today was a big day of firsts. First time out. First swim outing. First ride on a rocking horse. Ok, I don't have pictures of the first time out, but I'm sure that you can imagine that it wasn't a pretty sight.

The first swim outing was much more fun. It was a surprise to me how much Keira loved to be in the water. She laughed and had a great time. She was particularly curious of all the other children that were there. check it out...

Scoping out the pool before we take the plunge

Here's the pool

Again...again...I want to go again!

Whoo! That was fun...Hey, mmmm...something to eat on the ground...

Enjoying a bolle after her swim
